BOSTON REOPENS TO REBUILD, BUILD AGAIN FROM THE BEGINNING of 2018
— The Boston Red Sox have announced they are opening up a new team headquarters and a brand new building on the city’s waterfront to build a new stadium.
The team announced the new building will be the Boston Red Wings Memorial Arena, and the team said it is in the process of selecting a new architect to build the new home.
In 2018, the Red Wings relocated to Boston, where they have played the past three seasons.
“We are thrilled to be joining forces with the City of Boston to build an iconic, new venue for the Red Sox, the National Hockey League’s Boston Bruins and the National Basketball Association’s Boston Celtics,” said Red Wings president and general manager Ken Holland.
“The new stadium is going to offer a great arena for both the Red Stars and the Boston Bruins, and we are looking forward to welcoming the Redbirds back to the Boston area.
While we are still in the early stages of this process, we are pleased to have this opportunity to bring the Boston skyline to life.
It’s the right fit for both organizations, and our goal is to have the Redstars and the Bruins play here by the end of this year.
We’re excited to be here in 2021 and beyond.”
The Red Wings announced the site for the new facility was chosen after a two-year process that included community input, private sector development, a public vote, and feedback from the public.
Bryan Littlefield, chairman and CEO of the Redesign Boston Redevelopment Corp., said the new venue is designed to house the Redstar team for a minimum of two seasons, and then be able to be used for the full season.
Littlefield said the Redwings will host the Redhawks in the new arena on Friday and Saturday nights from January 1 through December 31.
On Monday, the new stadium will open for business, and on Tuesday, it will host a pre-season game.
Fans can expect to see a full-time team manager on the field in 2018, and there will be a new scoreboard for the first time in the Reds stadium.
The Redhawks will play their home games at Gillette Stadium, which will also be transformed into a new soccer stadium.
